Minnesota, Wacipi's birth place, is centered within Dakota creation stories and is an important place in traditional Ojibwe history. Along with the Dakota and Ojibwe, the Ho-Chunk, Cheyenne, Oto, Iowa, and the Sac & Fox tribes also acknowledge Minnesota as important to their tribal histories.
Wacipi's parents, Marty Is QAA2X before he was 4 years old. Scally has her JR/SR/MH at 2 Years and 9 Months and qualified for the Master Amateur. Both parents have performed very well at extremely young ages as have many for generations behind them. A wacipi (also known as a powwow) is a traditional Native American gathering, a celebration of life, pride, and honor, according to the Upper Sioux Community. The term "wacipi" translates to "they dance" in the Dakota language. Wacipi events are community celebrations featuring dancing, singing, and cultural sharing. |
